Scanning tips

Stand where the panels would go and hold the phone upright. Sweep slowly across the sky until the dots in the sun band clear and the ring reaches at least 90 percent. The arrow at the edge of the screen points to areas you haven't covered yet.

The compass seems off

Move away from cars, metal roofs and railings, then wave the phone in a figure-eight to recalibrate. ShadeScan warns you when it detects magnetic interference.

Location won't turn on

Open the Settings app, choose ShadeScan, tap Location, and pick "While Using the App". ShadeScan needs your location to know where the sun travels at your spot.

How accurate is it?

ShadeScan gives a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Results depend on sensor accuracy, how carefully the sky is scanned, and seasonal changes such as leaves growing back. For a final design, confirm with a licensed solar installer.
